PMQs: Straw heckled over Chiltern and TPE train question

Jack Straw was heckled by MPs when he asked the prime minister about one-in-eight TransPennine Express (TPE) trains being transferred "for the greater comfort and convenience" of commuters in southern England.

MPs jeered the former Labour foreign secretary for talking about services in his Lancashire constituency, while he lived in the area served by Chiltern Railways, which runs trains from London to Oxfordshire and the south Midlands.

Mr Straw was not impressed, and said it may be "a laughing matter to them, it is certainly not a laughing matter for people in the north of England,"

The prime minister spoke of improved rail services in northern England, but admitted he was being "cheeky" with another reference to Mr Straw living in the Cotswolds.
