EU data rules aim to make online surfing data safer

MEPs have approved regulations to stop companies from sharing personal data online without the owner's permission.

It came after American whistleblower Edward Snowdon's revelations which claimed governments were even using mobile phone games, such as Angry Birds, to spy on people.

But world wide web inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee said the UK must go even further than European regulations to cover everything online.
