Vet Marc Abraham and MP on puppy farm and dog welfare

The government was not willing to enforce its own guidelines over dog welfare, said a TV vet who called on MPs to act and help rescue dogs and stop puppy farming.

Marc Abraham said there was an "over production of dogs" in the UK, with battery farming of puppies while rescue dogs were put to sleep every day.

And the Brighton-based vet said people were tempted to follow celebrities and buy dogs that looked good in a handbag, and on Facebook.

He spoke with Labour MP Maria Eagle who said many of the UK's puppy farms were in Wales and its government was looking to boost local authority controls.

Their studio debate on the Pup Aid campaign followed Mr Abraham's Daily Politics film.
