Lib Dems condemn MP's Gaza comments

A Lib Dem MP has been accused of making "vile" comments on social media about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

David Ward told BBC Radio Leeds on Tuesday that during a prolonged ceasefire between the two sides "there will still be Palestinians who are being shot by the Israeli forces... there will still be child detention."

He added: "That to the Israelis is peace".

Mr Ward also tweeted on Tuesday: "The big question is - if I lived in #Gaza would I fire a rocket? - probably yes."

A Lib Dem spokesman said the party "utterly condemned" the MP's remarks, which could prompt disciplinary action.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Wednesday 23 July.
