Labour MP Simon Danczuk on Fiona Woolf inquiry role

Fiona Woolf is "clearly not suitable for the role" of chairing the inquiry investigating historical child abuse, said a Labour MP who previously investigated child abuse by Cyril Smith.

Simon Danczuk said the role could not go to someone who was "too connected" to the Establishment and former home secretary Leon Brittan, and who did not have the confidence of the public or the survivors of child abuse.

The MP told Jo Coburn on the Daily Politics that many survivors were "suspicious of the government's handling of this" and he accused the government of unnecessary delays.

Downing Street has said it had "full confidence" in the Lord Mayor of London. Fiona Woolf was appointed to the role following Baroness Butler-Sloss' resignation, after victims' families were concerned about her independence.
