Michael Fallon 'misspoke' with immigrant comment

Defence secretary Michael Fallon says he "misspoke" when warning that some areas of the UK could be "swamped" by immigrants without changes to European Union rules on movement.

Speaking to 5 live Breakfast, Mr Fallon said he "was very careless" with the words he used and meant to say there are places that feel "under pressure" from large numbers of immigrants.

Mr Fallon says Britain is seeing immigration from other countries in Europe because Britain's economy is "doing particularly well at the moment".
