Annual Tax Summary: TUC and MPs on spending information

The first statements showing taxpayers where their money goes are "very misleading", the TUC has said.

Nicola Smith, head of economic and social affairs at the TUC, said no-one would be against a "transparent debate", but the presentation of spending inflated the figures for welfare and benefits.

Conservative backbencher Jesse Norman said it was "frankly absurd" to claim that a graph on the Annual Tax Summary could be politically charged, but Labour MP Meg Hiller said "this is not transparent information".

They were talking to Jo Coburn on the Daily Politics, along with Liberal Democrat MP Jenny Willott.
