Gay blood donor rules need changing - Michael Fabricant

A Tory MP said he was proud his party brought in gay marriage, and he now wants it to revise the rules on gay men giving blood.

Michael Fabricant said his argument was based on "simple logic" that gay men who tested negative for HIV and Hepatitis B should be able to give blood, giving equal rules for the gay and straight communities.

In a personal film for the Daily Politics, the MP for Lichfield and former Tory vice chairman said the rules "just don't make sense any more" and he called on the government to "think again about equal blood".

Mr Fabricant will be a guest on Wednesday's Daily Politics around 12:40 GMT on BBC2 to debate his film with MPs Amber Rudd and Margaret Curran, and the full sequence will be on iPlayer for 30 days.
