UKIP hopes for second elected MP as polls close

Polls have closed in the Rochester and Strood by-election where the UK Independence Party is hoping to gain its second elected Westminster MP.

MP Mark Reckless's defection from the Tories to UKIP prompted the contest - the second by-election caused by a UKIP defection in just over a month.

Polls suggest he is on course to win the seat for the party, which campaigns for the UK to leave the European Union.

The BBC's political editor Nick Robinson reports.
