Autumn Statement: Osborne plans 'Northern Powerhouse'
Investment in science, the arts and transport have been announced by the chancellor as part of his plans to create a "northern powerhouse" in England.
George Osborne told MPs that £6bn of investment would be made in science research facilities, from work on ageing to "exploring the universe".
The chancellor's Autumn Statement also included a plan to tender for new franchises for the Northern Rail and TransPennine Express.
