General election 2015: Whig bid to return to Parliament

More than three centuries after it was founded, and nearly 150 years after it folded, the Whig Party is aiming for a revival.

Waleed Ghani, standing with others for the Whigs at the 2015 general election, told Jo Coburn it was more important to talk about values, than policies, at this stage.

He said there was a place for Whigs, as Labour and Lib Dems were not occupying the "space" against the Tories and UKIP.

The UK had 16 Whig prime ministers, and the longest-serving British PM Robert Walpole was probably its most prominent member.
