House of Parliament repair work and costs: John Ware
The Houses of Parliament may have been considered suitable for demolition, if it was not for their history, said the man in charge of the Palace's Restoration and Renewal project.
Richard Ware said there would come a time when parts of it could be roped off for safety reasons if work is not done.
And the constant use of the buildings for sittings and visits has been a major reason for a lack of work, as these was no down time for this to be carried out.
He spoke to Jo Coburn about the balance between peers and MPs moving out, or staying put, while repairs were undertaken.
Asked about the reported £3bn repair cost, Mr Ware said it was not an official figure: "The honest figure is that we don't know."
