Fight for diversity in the Commons played out on stage
A new play has opened in London, exploring the issue of diversity in the House of Commons and the case for allowing all-black shortlists for parliamentary elections.
With 12.9% of the UK population describing themselves as being from a non-white background, MPs have some way to go - only 4.2%, or 27 of them are from a black or minority ethnic group, external.
Inspired by real-life political events, Upper Cut, external - written by Juliet Gilkes Romero - tells the story of the fight for black representation; from the general election of 1987 to today's coalition politics.
