Paddy Ashdown: 'Broadcasters must hold their nerve'

David Cameron has said he will take part in just one televised debate before the election, ruling out the prospect of a head-to-head confrontation between the Prime Minister and Ed Miliband.

The move has been criticised by the Lib-Dems, UKIP and Labour.

The former Liberal Democrats leader Paddy Ashdown told the BBC the Lib Dems wanted to see debates "anchored as part of the established process of the British democratic right at an election" - and would take part even if the first debate turned out to be a farce.
