John McDonnell apologises for 2003 IRA comment
The new shadow chancellor John McDonnell has apologised for the first time for saying that members of the IRA deserved to be honoured.
Speaking on Thursday's Question Time on BBC One he said his remarks - more than a decade ago - had been "a mistake".
Mr McDonnell also said he was sorry for an "appalling joke" about former Conservative Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
