Commons Speaker John Bercow tributes to Healey and Howe

Commons Speaker John Bercow has paid tribute to former chancellors Denis Healey and Geoffrey Howe who died aged 98 and 88, respectively.

Lord Healey was a Labour chancellor in the 1970s, and became deputy leader in 1980.

Lord Howe was former Conservative Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's longest serving cabinet minister, and chancellor from 1979 to 1983.

Mr Bercow said they were "outstanding parliamentarians" who served their constituents, parties and the country "with unwavering loyalty and distinction".

"Intellectually and politically formidable, they will be greatly missed, he said.
