Hilary Benn: There is a 'compelling case' for Syria action
The shadow foreign secretary Hilary Benn has delivered the clearest indication yet that he is likely to support military action in Syria.
In an interview with BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg he said the arguments put in favour of action were "compelling". There was a very strong case for us playing "our full part" he said.
He would not be drawn on whether Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn agreed with him and, amid reports that around half the shadow cabinet opposes action, he said: "Of course we have to see the motion the government will finally table but I am in favour of taking action that is effective in ending that threat."
The shadow cabinet would meet again on Monday, he said.
