RAF Tornado jets carry out first air strikes against IS

RAF jets have carried out their first air strikes against self-styled Islamic State in Syria, just hours after MPs voted to approve bombing.

Four Tornado jets from the RAF's base in Akrotiri in Cyprus took part in the operation, targeting oil fields in eastern Syria, which are under IS control.

David Cameron has warned that the British mission against so-called Islamic State in Syria is complex and will take time.

The prime minister called for patience and persistence as RAF jets carried out their first air strikes in Syria - just hours after MPs voted to approve the bombing.
