Stephen Crabb: No further plans for welfare cuts

The government has no plans to make further cuts to welfare spending, the new work and pensions secretary, Stephen Crabb has told MPs.

He made the pledge in his first speech since replacing Iain Duncan Smith, who resigned with an attack on planned disability benefit cuts - which have now been axed.

It means the £4bn the cuts to personal independence payments were meant to save by 2020 will not be found from elsewhere in the welfare budget.
