Ed Balls says he misses the sense of 'purpose'

Ed Balls says he misses the sense of "purpose and mission" that comes with being in government.

The former shadow chancellor told BBC 5 live: "I'm looking forward to my life and thinking 'will there be something else that comes along that can give me that sense of purpose?'"

After it was suggested it could all depend on how he does as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing, Mr Balls replied "in that case I'm totally doomed".
