Steven Woolfe: I'm resigning from UKIP
Stephen Woolfe has told the BBC he is resigning from UKIP "with immediate effect" and will carry on as an independent MEP.
It comes after an altercation with a fellow MEP after which Mr Woolfe was taken to hospital.
Mr Woolfe, who had thrown his hat in to the ring for the upcoming leadership race, said UKIP was "in a spiral" and was currently "ungovernable".
"I hope there might be a leader out there that can stop this spiral, but it isn’t me," he told BBC political correspondent Alex Forsyth.
