Budget: Gauke on 'modernising' taxing of self-employed

The Chief Secretary to the Treasury, David Gauke, has said "the majority of self-employed people" will see a reduction in their National Insurance contributions.

Chancellor Philip Hammond announced in the Budget that National Insurance contributions from the self-employed would rise next year by 2%. However the Conservatives promised in their 2015 election manifesto that they wouldn't raise National Insurance.

David Gauke told Radio 4's World at One that the gap between the employed and the self-employed is "going to grow" if action isn't taken.
