David Gauke: Benefit sanctions appropriate in some cases
Work and Pensions Secretary David Gauke has said in some cases where benefit conditions are not met it is appropriate to impose a sanction.
He told the BBC's Andrew Marr Show the number of benefit sanctions had fallen in 2017, compared to 2016 and 2015.
Sanctions are used when people fail to comply with conditions attached to the benefits they receive, and involve the payments being reduced or stopped.
