Pro-Brexit negotiator would 'politicise civil service'

Former permanent secretary at the Foreign Office, Lord Ricketts, says replacing the ambassador to the EU with an openly pro-Brexit candidate would "politicise the civil service" in a way never been done before in the UK.

His comments follow the resignation of the UK's top diplomat in Brussels, Sir Ivan Rogers.

He had been due to play a key role in Brexit talks expected to start within months but stepped down early warning of "muddled thinking" in government.
