Asbestos claims allowed in court ruling

The UK Supreme Court has ruled on an appeal by insurance companies against an act of the Scottish Parliament which allowed the right to claim compensation for an asbestos-related condition called pleural plaques.

Lord Hope read the judgement which dismissed the appeal.

The ruling means that Scots have the right to claim compensation if they have the asbestos-related condition.

Pay outs could cost up to £9m.
