'We made snowballs of asbestos dust'

The Supreme Court in London has ruled the Scottish Parliament was right to pass a law allowing Scots suffering from an asbestos-related condition, known as pleural plaques, to claim compensation.

The condition is effectively scarring on the tissues surrounding the lungs and is caused by exposure to asbestos.

Ron Marsh has pleural plaques. The 70-year-old from Stonehaven has said the condition is a legacy of his first job at the St Rollox locomotive works in Glasgow.

The company that has taken over the old British Rail's liabilities, and its insurers, have disputed his claim.
