Independent Scotland 'would need to rejoin EU and UN'

The UK government has published legal advice which suggests an independent Scotland would be treated as an entirely new state under international law.

The legal opinion, which has been described as "arrogant" by the SNP, suggests Scotland would have to renegotiate membership of international bodies including the EU and United Nations.
