'I spent £3,000 in five hours' on slot machines

It is thought Scots are spending over £4bn a year on betting machines which have been branded "crack cocaine" for gamblers.

The sum is the equivalent of four new hospitals or two Forth Road crossings and works out at around £1,000 for each adult in Scotland.

The Campaign for Fairer Gambling has called for spend on machines to have a £2 limit.

Bookmakers dispute the figures and say they have eight million happy customers across the UK.
