Sleep disorder sufferer: 'I woke gasping for breath'

The British Lung Foundation has said people living in rural areas of Scotland are at higher risk of a common sleep disorder but may be going undiagnosed because of a lack of services.

Obstructive sleep apnoea causes sufferers to repeatedly stop breathing as they sleep.

Rose Russell, from Oban, who has been treated for the condition, said: "I was wakening myself up by gasping for breath".

The nearest hospital offering treatment, in Glasgow, can mean a 12-hour round trip.
