Scottish independence: Currency union is 'not straightforward'

The Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly were conceived within weeks of each other in the devolution referendums of 1997.

Welsh First Minister, Labour's Carwyn Jones, has warned that Wales could block efforts by an independent Scotland to form a pound-sharing pact with the UK.

The SNP wants to keep sterling as part of a currency union should Scotland become independent.

Mr Jones told BBC Newsnight Scotland that a shared currency would hinder decision making: "The idea of a currency union is nothing like as straightforward as it seems and would certainly need the agreement of what was left, as it were then, of the UK."
