Super Puma helicopter crash: 'Fell like a torpedo'

A fatal accident inquiry has begun into the deaths of 16 men in a North Sea helicopter crash in 2009.

A witness described seeing a helicopter falling from the sky into the sea 'like a torpedo', on the first day of evidence of the FAI.

The Super Puma, operated by Bond, was on its way from BP's Miller platform to Aberdeen when it came down 12 miles north east of Peterhead.

All on board were killed. An accident investigation has already pinpointed a catastrophic gear box failure as the cause of the crash.
