MSPs to pass children's rights bill

The Scottish Parliament is expected to pass legislation to improve services for children and young people.

MSPs will debate the Children and Young People (Scotland) Bill later.

If passed, the bill will increase the hours of free nursery care for three and four year olds, young people will be able to stay in foster care until they are 21 years old, there will be free school meals for every child in the first three years of primary school.

The proposal of a named adult or "state guardian" for every child has proved controversial.
