Glasgow food bank forced to close as demand outstrips supply

The latest figures show that demand at food banks around Scotland has almost tripled in the last two years.

In Glasgow demand has been so great that one of the city's largest food parcel services had to close when it ran out of supplies.

Grant Campbell, chief executive at Glasgow City Mission, says it is the first time they have ever had to suspend the service which helps around 100 people each week.

Mr Campbell says it is not just homeless people who seek help, those who are working but struggling to make ends meet and many who have had their benefits stopped, a sanction imposed due to breach of benefit rules.
