Aurora borealis makes a rainbow of Scotland skies

The aurora borealis or Northern Lights are one of nature's most incredible light shows.

Stargazers who braved the cold on Thursday night were rewarded with one of the best displays in years.

The colour and movement is caused by charged atomic particles from the sun colliding with the earth's atmosphere.
