Scottish independence: Salmond says defence is a matter of co-operation

Alex Salmond has said the defence of an independent Scotland would involve negotiation with the UK government.

Mr Salmond said: "We will co-operate with our allies including our friends south of the border, of course, on many aspects of defence procurement and it will be in their interest to co-operate with us".

The first minister was responding to an earlier claim by UK Defence Minister Philip Hammond that a "Yes" vote would risk thousands of Scottish defence jobs.
