Scottish independence: Salmond tells Obama: 'Yes we can'
First Minister Alex Salmond has said that while the US had fought for its independence, Scotland could achieve the same result through a democratic vote.
Mr Salmond said: "We have a democratically agreed consented process by which we can vote for our independence."
The president of the US had earlier told the G7 summit in Brussels that the country had a "deep interest" in making sure the UK remains a "strong, robust, united and effective partner".
Barack Obama made the remarks at a joint news conference alongside David Cameron in Brussels, when he stressed the decision on independence was up to the people of Scotland.
