Former FM Henry McLeish says Labour has to fight for votes

Two former Labour first ministers of Scotland have suggested the Scottish Labour Party is in need of an overhaul.

The remarks by Lord Jack McConnell and Henry McLeish were reported in newspapers at the weekend following the loss of some traditional Labour voters to the Yes campaign in last month's referendum.

Former First Minister Henry McLeish told BBC Scotland's political correspondent Lucy Adams the party had lost sight of voters: "This is the point that Labour just can't get.

"There's no entitlement to a vote now. Labour has got to realise that every vote has got to be fought for."

Mr McLeish cited the increase in party membership for the Greens and SNP as evidence.
