RNLI Stromness rescuer saw 'waves 25m to 30m high'

Powerful waves and high winds have been disrupting travel across northern and western areas of Scotland.

A trawler had to be escorted to shelter by the Stromness lifeboat after waves smashed its windows off the coast of Orkney.

RNLI crew member Norman Brass told BBC Scotland the waves were as bad as any he had seen in 16 years with the RNLI.

He added: "We would be looking at 25 to 30 metre waves at its worst. Luckily we were going with the swell, the tide and the winds so that helped us enormously."
