Holocaust Memorial Day: Henry's kindertransport escape

Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated 70 years ago on 27 January 1945. Candles will be lit across the country to remember those who died there and people killed in genocides since World War Two.

What happened to those who managed to escape Nazi Germany?

Henry Wuga escaped Nazi Germany after arriving in Scotland by kindertransport. Forced to leave his parents behind, his mother was hidden by friends and survived the war.

At 16 years old he was accused of corresponding with the enemy, after writing to family in Belgium, and was locked up with German prisoners in Glasgow.

Mr Wuga told BBC Good Morning Scotland's Bill Whiteford that Holocaust Memorial Day concentrates the mind: "A government made a decision to eradicate a whole people. It is absolutely mind boggling and it should not happen again."
