Nikki's self-harm advice 'Speak to someone and ask for help'
The number of young people admitted to hospital after deliberately harming themselves has doubled in parts of Scotland over a five-year period, according to figures obtained by the BBC.
NHS Ayrshire and Arran which has seen a doubling since 2009, said more young people now accept it is ok to seek help and know where to go for support.
Elaine Chalmers from ChildLine said self-harm was one of the top subjects callers raise with them.
At the age of 16 Nikki began to self harm. Now aged 28, she uses that experience in her work as a volunteer counsellor with the mental health charity Penumbra, external.
What advice would she give her 16-year-old self? "Speak to someone and ask for help", she said.
