Concern over Fair Isle puffins decline

The number of puffins breeding in Fair Isle has halved over the last 30 years.

A long-term study has found that the population has fallen to 10,000 since 1986.

Ornithologists are trying to find out what has led to the decline in breeding numbers in the area.

Dr Will Miles, from the Fair Isle Bird Observatory Trust, told BBC Scotland it could be due to poor feeding conditions for birds around the Shetland Islands.
