Defence firm Thales secures £125m MoD contract

French firm Thales has won a £125m contract to build night vision equipment in Glasgow for the Ministry of Defence.

The equipment will be built at the firm's Govan plant and fitted to armoured military vehicles, with the deal securing at least 40 jobs on the site for five years.

Managing director Stuart Bolton told BBC Scotland the deal would benefit both parties, calling it "a break-through contract for us" and a "step-change" in the ability of armoured vehicles to carry out surveillance and reconnaissance activities in hostile environments.
