Warnings over school test plans

Opposition leaders have been giving their reaction to Nicola Sturgeon's programme for government in the final year before the Scottish Parliament elections in 2016.

Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale called on the first minister to suspend all school inspections for one year to allow the inspection regime to be evaluated.

Ruth Davidson called for the introduction of international testing. The leader of the Scottish Conservatives said it was essential that Scottish students know how they fare against those from other countries.

Willie Rennie, the leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, warned that the focus on pupil testing and league tables would put undue pressure on pupils "to make the numbers look good".

Patrick Harvie, co-convener of the Scottish Greens, said he fears the that the changes announced by the first minister are at risk of becoming "another political football".
