The Aberdeen volunteers helping Syrian refugees

Prime Minister David Cameron has promised to offer sanctuary to 20,000 Syrian refugees over the next five years.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will meet UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond for talks on the issue.

As Scotland's councils consider how many refugees they can take in, Aberdeen City Council has faced criticism for not reacting quickly enough.

Volunteers in the city have already sent a strong message of support to those forced from their homes, as BBC Scotland's Neil Metcalf reports.
