Scots using 650m fewer plastic bags since the 5p charge

Shoppers in Scotland have been paying 5p for bags for one year.

The charge on single use bags was designed to encourage shoppers to reuse them or invest in sturdier models - and it seems to have worked.

The Scottish government says that 650m fewer disposable bags were used in the 12 months since the Carrier Bag Charge Scotland regulation was introduced.

BBC Scotland's Huw Williams reports.
