Evolution of Highlands and Islands Development Board

The Highlands and Islands Development Board was set up in 1965 to reverse generations of depopulation and economic decay throughout much of the north of Scotland.

The agency has been criticised for its more risky ventures but backers claim it has helped turn around the region's fortunes.
