Why you should wear a woolly hat in winter

Taking simple precautions like wearing a woolly hat and turning up the heating could save your life in winter, say experts.

Researchers have warned that more people die in countries with warmer winters because they allow themselves to get too cold.

Cold temperatures cause changes to the composition of the blood which increases the likelihood of having a heart attack or stroke. Viral, bacterial and respiratory infections also mostly occur in winter.

Figures also show that there are fewer deaths in Scotland than in England during winter.

Why is this the case? On a day when temperatures were similar in Edinburgh and Plymouth, we asked people what they were wearing to keep the cold at bay.
