Speaker's statement on Alistair Carmichael case ruling
Speaker John Bercow has informed the House of Commons about the outcome of the election court case against Alistair Carmichael.
Judges rejected the legal action, which was taken by four constituents who claimed that he misled voters over a leaked memo before May's election.
John Bercow said that, under the Representation of the People Act 1983, he was required to tell MPs that "the judges have determined that the petition be dismissed".
