Glasgow-built tech help detect gravitational waves

Scientists have discovered gravitational waves, ripples in the fabric of space and time caused by previous collisions in space, which will increase our understanding of the universe.

Researchers at Glasgow University have designed, built and installed components which played a crucial part in the international project.

Albert Einstein first proposed the idea 100 years ago in his work the Theory of General Relativity.

BBC Scotland science correspondent Kenneth Macdonald was at Glasgow University to hear the news from the National Science Foundation who had gathered scientists from Caltech, Mit and the Ligo Scientific Collaboration to update the scientific community.
