Ex-SRU doctor worries about contact sports causing dementia

A former team Scotland doctor says he is worried that head knocks sustained in rugby have caused dementia among former players.

Donald MacLeod, a former Scottish Rugby Union doctor who worked with the Scotland team between 1967 and 1995, says: " I think about it almost every Saturday as I go down to watch a game somewhere... every now and then you hear about people who are not coming to games because they're not fine."

Several former players have told BBC Scotland's John Beattie they are concerned that their Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy is a result of their playing career.

The Scottish Rugby Union has said it has systems in place to help players.
